Emergency Medicine Ongoing Research
All patients who are incarcerated, pregnant and/or breast-feeding, or unable to sign an informed consent are excluded from all studies.
Acedote EF Study is to determine non-inferiority of efficacy determined by the proportion of subjects who develop hepatotoxicity when treated with Acetadote EF and the proposed new dosing regimen compared to the rate of hepatotoxicity with Acetadote and the current dosing regimen.
- Inclusion: Requires treatment with acetylcysteine for suspected acute acetaminophen toxicity
- Exclusion: Allergy or hypersensitivity to acetylcysteine or any component of Acetadote
- Investigational drugs within the past 30 days
- <12 years old
- Baseline ALT or AST > 1000 U/L
- On dialysis or have existing injury
- Have CHF
The Efficacy and Safety of Alantro [Antivenin Latrodectus (Black Widow) Equine Immune F(ab)2], in Patients with Systemic Latrodectism. Each subject will be randomized to the study antivenom or placebo, but will continue to get opioids as required. Study-related medications and treatments will be paid for and the subject is eligible for up to $60 for participation.
Subclavian Central Line Placement: Is Ultrasound Guided Placement Better Than Traditional Methods? Patients requiring a central line will be randomized to either US-guided or traditional placement methods. Placement will be timed and cross-over technique will be used by the attending if 3 attempts by both the resident and attending are unsuccessful.
Animal Bite History among Emergency Department Patients. The purpose of this study is to find out more about the reported frequency of animal bites and whether they tend to get infected or not. It also examines whether certain animal bites are more commonly associated with infections.
Pulmonary Screening/Referral. Patients are asked a series of questions to determine pulmonary history. Based on these results, patients may qualify for the opportunity to participate in one of a number of pulmonary clinical trials to improve the quality of life for patient with lung diseases.
Research Registries. The goal of registries is to compile information on patients with certain complaints that will optimize the quality and completeness of future retrospective reviews. Our current registries are:
