Clinical Informatics is the scientific field concerned with the application of information technology to the delivery of healthcare services. In my administrative role as Chief Information Officer (CIO) for UCSD Health Sciences, I am responsible for the implementation and optimization of a comprehensive electronic health record (EHR) system. Together with colleagues, my applied informatics research is focused on rigorously evaluating the best ways to implement and optimize health information technology to benefit the patients and staff we serve.

Christopher Longhurst, MD, chief information officer for UC San Diego Health, was one of 11 honorees at this year’s Top Tech Exec Awards ceremony, held on the Petco Park field. The awards celebrate recipients’ technological contributions, service and innovation across diverse industries. Longhurst was honored in the education category.
