Claudiu Farcas, PhD

Systems Architect

Claudiu Farcas is an Assistant Research Scientist at the UCSD division of the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology (Calit2) and the System Architect for the Division of Biomedical Informatics. Claudiu's major research interests are software engineering for embedded and large-scale distributed systems, virtual execution environments, portable real-time components, programming languages, networking, and Web technologies. 

Claudiu studied computer science and control systems at the "Politehnica" University of Timisoara, Romania, and graduated in 2002. Between 1997 and 2003, he worked on system and Web software development, network management, and satellite communications. In 2006, he received his doctoral degree within the Software Research Lab of Prof. Wolfgang Pree at the Department of Computer Science, University of Salzburg, Austria. His research focused on software engineering, portability, and virtual run-time environments for embedded systems. He also contributed to the development of the TDL component model, the concept of transparent distribution for hard real-time systems, and the abstractions of the underlying platform.
