Dr. Kathy Staats is a Board eligible Emergency Medicine physician that is beginning her fellowship in EMS and Disaster Medicine at UCSD. Kathy’s interest in EMS began in college when she volunteered for four years with the country’s oldest collegiate EMS program: the Virginia Tech Rescue Squad. There she discovered the thrill of driving an ambulance, the intensity of running sick patients, and the necessity of disaster planning. Since then, medicine has taken Kathy to live in two of the best cities in the US: New York and Austin; and she is excited to explore her new home of San Diego. Outside the hospital, Kathy loves to run, attempt to cook plantains, and travel. Travel adventure 2017: New Zealand!
