CaduceusThe Department of Family Medicine and Public Health is composed of six Public Health divisions and one clinical division. Each division is led by an appointed chief and pursues active investigational and educational interests.

The Division of Behavioral Medicine is home to behavioral scientists who apply their skills to understand and change actions that affect health and disease. Much of the division’s research focuses on physical activity, tobacco use, and eating, the behaviors that are leading causes of chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. The Division of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics’ faculty have expertise in design and analysis of clinical trials, behavioral interventions, cohort studies, and biomarker studies, including such areas as longitudinal models, “big data” and high dimensional analyses, image analysis, and survey statistics. The Division of Epidemiology is one of the leading epidemiology units in the United States and demonstrates particular strength in studies of women's health, geriatrics, and the epidemiology of a variety of chronic diseases including cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, and breast cancer. The Division of Family Medicine, the Department of Family Medicine and Public Health’s clinical division, is home to a group of 50 faculty and fellows as well as 60 residents. Family Medicine is dedicated to training tomorrow’s physicians and promoting relevant research to improve patient care, medical education, and improving health through community service. The Division of Global Health is a multidisciplinary division made up of faculty with training and expertise in health psychology, health care services, epidemiology, biostatistics, and medical anthropology.  Faculty research focuses on the causes of chronic diseases and interventions to prevent them at the global level. The Division of Health Policy faculty are dedicated to using health policy, health economics, behavioral and statistical research to improve Public Health policy decision making and promote health and well-being of all people. Faculty expertise is in the areas of outcomes research, health policy, cancer prevention, and medical ethics. Contact Information

The Division of Preventive Medicine is engaged in research, teaching, training, clinical care, and community-related efforts that focus on health promotion and disease prevention and control. Preventive Medicine faculty research interests include health behavior research, in particular in the areas of diet and physical activity, cardiovascular disease prevention, and obesity prevention and management.
