BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Jane Kim is an assistant professor at UCSD’s Department of Pediatrics and a physician-scientist in the UCSD Division of Pediatric Endocrinology. Her medical education began at the University of Toronto, followed by a pediatric residency at the Hospital for Sick Children.

Committed to pursuing endocrine research that integrates molecular biology, genetics and medicine, Dr. Kim moved to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Headquarters. There, Dr. Kim complete her pediatric endocrinology fellowship. To gain additional expertise in diabetes research, Dr. Kim did her postdoctoral research training at the Naomi Berrie Diabetes Center at Columbia University, New York. In 2004, Dr. Kim joined the UCSD faculty at the School of Medicine.

RESEARCH INTERESTS

Dr. Kim's clinical translational research aims to identify early biomarkers for diabetic complications, in particular kidney disease. For these studies she profiles urine samples from large numbers of patients with T1D. Patients at risk could then take dietary precautions or medications to prevent loss of kidney function.
