Teacher Spotlight - March 2016

Sanjai Rao, M.D.Sanjai Rao, M.D., Assistant Clinical Professor

“My identity as an educator is as significant to me as my identity as a psychiatrist, and the most gratifying part of my professional life is the privilege of working with exceptional residents and medical students every day. My teaching style is rooted in adult learning theory, emphasizing the process of reasoning through a complex case or question in a systematic and repeatable way. I believe residents learn the most when given as much autonomy as possible, and try to encourage them to make their own (clinically appropriate) decisions, even if their choices are different than my own preferences. In this way, I hope to help residents navigate the learning process of becoming an independent physician.”
