APF/Kempf Fund Award for Research Development in Psychobiological

The APF/Kempf Fund Award for Research Development in Psychobiological Psychiatry recognizes a senior researcher who has made a significant contribution to research on the causes and treatment of schizophrenia as both a researcher and a mentor. The award will support the work of Dr. Savita Bhakta, a Fellow in Dr. Swerdlow's laboratory. Dr. Bhakta is assessing the potential role of tolcapone, a COMT inhibitor, in enhancing the clinical benefits of cognitive therapies for schizophrenia. In these studies, genes, neurophysiological measures and functional brain imaging are being assessed as potential biomarkers predicting treatment response in schizophrenia patients.
