Dr. Scanderbeg is a Southern California native and a pure Triton alumnus, having completed his undergraduate and graduate education, as well as residency, at the University of California, San Diego in beautiful La Jolla, CA. He received his BS in Physics from UC San Diego in 2000, followed by a Master of Science in Physics with a specialization in Materials Physics in 2001. After transferring to the Materials Science and Engineering program and receiving his PhD in 2007, Dr. Scanderbeg completed his medical physics residency and joined the faculty in Radiation Medicine and Applied Sciences.
Dr. Scanderbeg currently serves as the Associate Physics Division Director in charge of Brachytherapy and Regulatory Affairs as well as the Technology Service Chief for Brachytherapy. He oversees all brachytherapy treatment options from high dose rate afterloading procedures to low dose rate permanent and temporary implants. Diseases treated with brachytherapy at UC San Diego include gynecological malignancies, breast cancer, prostate cancer, sarcomas, brain tumors, and melanomas.
