Doucet Receives Grant to Study Shock in Trauma Patients

Doucet

In February 2011, the National Trauma Institute (NTI) awarded Jay Doucet, MD, associate professor of surgery in the division of Trauma, Surgical Critical Care and Burns, a grant of $230,000 for a multicenter clinical research project to identify shock in trauma patients using ultrasound.

NTI grants are awarded to selected researchers seeking to answer important questions related to an array of medical complications resulting from traumatic injury. NTI assembles public and private resources to support trauma research across the country, sets a national trauma research agenda, and supports military and civilian innovation and collaboration in trauma care and research. Dr. Doucet’s project aims to identify a rapid, non-invasive technique to detect internal blood loss in military and civilian trauma patients.
